The more I live life, the more I realize that happiness is momentary and quite elusive. You can feel it for a few moments, but it is very difficult to hold on to and maintain.

What are your thoughts?

I think for more people, happiness is a diversion that makes us momentarily forget about serious, underlying problems. Even men on death row due to be executed the next morning can spend the night telling jokes and playing cards and looking quite happy.

Joy is knowing that no matter what, everything will be all right in the end.

A cousin of mine died of a brain tumor two years ago. It was diagnosed about Thanksgiving and she died just after Christmas. I visited her in the hospital while she was talking on the phone to a friend. She said that she had great hopes for a new treatment but if it didn't work, she would be with her Lord so either way it was okay. My brother passed away 10 years ago from a heart attack. A few weeks before the heart attack, he was talking about lowering his cholesterol. He said that if he could live a few years longer that would be great, but the important thing was to know Christ. I think my cousin and my brother both had inner joy.

Happiness is what you make of it. If you surround yourself with monitary happiness, then I believe thats what you will get. Not all the time tho will this work but fill your happiness with small things that bring you joy such as walking in the woods and listening and looking at the scenery.

Life is what you make of it.
Sorrow looks back,
Worry looks around,
and Faith looks ahead.

The more you have faith and focus on what brings you joy, the more you can be at peace and happiness. Find something that brings you true joy, like a hobby or person. Not something materialistic that only lasts momentarily

It's a few second thing. Prolonged if you're lucky. The rest of the time is spent missing that feeling and wondering when it is going to happen again.
Tell me why we are such emotional masochists.

Your contention is somewhat a self-fulfilling philosophy.

If you always think something is bound to go wrong you won't trust happiness when you find it.

I'm pretty much of the same mind as you. No recommendation, just fact.
