Rune Factory help?

Question

A few questions, I just can't seem to figure it out myself.

1.) What does "charging" do for you? It never seems to have an effect, do you need a certain skill level before it will work?
2.) How do you put items in your backpack, or can you?
3.) How do you chop up the tree stumps in your farm? I've used an axe on one for a whole day and nothing happened.

Any other tips/advice would be appreciated, I lost the booklet to the game so I'm having to figure it out as I go!

1. For weapons, the results of charging depends on the weapon. For tools, once you get a tool over level 1, the charge also differs from tool to tool, but most either work faster charged, or effect more area.
2. Press A to put an item you are carrying in your backpack.
3. You have to use a charged attack from a level 2 or higher ax. Talk to the dwarf in town you got the hammer from and he will offer to forge tools for some minerals and some money. He can get your tools to level 3 of 5. The other two levels require the house upgrade.

Now for some general advice:
-The caves are always the same season, so you can grow out-of-season crops in them.
-Buy greenifer from the doctor and use it on unsprouted crops, then use the seed maker (bought from Vann on a specific weekend) to make seeds of the next level up from the leveled crop. The maximum level is 10, at which your crops will be worth 10 TIMES as much as their base price. Strawberry's are possibly the best crop for this.
