It might interest them in pursuing the construction of more REAL railroads and fewer highways...
It might guide them into the hobby of model railroading... which involves MANY skills and disciplines: construction, art, electronics & electricity, sculpture, painting, model building, research, etc...
It also is much better from them than video-games.
