One of TWO ways ....
(1) Little elves work around the clock ... cutting each one individually until each one is perfect and cute little shape & ready to be shipped to cat food supply & grocery stores .........
OR ...................
(2) Dry food is generally made by extrusion cooking under high heat and pressure. It may then be sprayed with fat to increase palatability and other ingredients to complete its composition.
Pet owners often prefer dry cat food due to the convenience and price. Besides usually being significantly cheaper, dry cat food can also be left out for the cat to eat at will over the course of several days; whereas, canned or raw cat food spoils or becomes unappetizing after several hours.
Dry food is recommended by some based on the idea that cats break apart dry foods with their teeth, which causes the food to scrape off dental calculus.[citation needed] The degree of benefit this provides has been disputed in recent years.[citation needed]

Do not feed Science Diet or Purina. If you want healthy, ignore those who are recommending these foods. They are not healthy. The filler ingredients they use are likely to make your cat fat and lead to problems later on in her life, even though she's healthy now. If you want healthy and TINY pieces, I recommend Earthborn Holistic's Primitive Feline food. Their food comes in the tiniest pieces I have ever seen. I actually didn't like it because they seem to fall out of my cat's mouth, but it's probably the thing you're looking for. Their ingredients are very healthy and Primitive Feline is grain free and has 40% protein. It's an obscure brand that you can't find at Petco or Petsmart, but it's often on sale at my local Pet Supplies Plus. You can find it in smaller stores. Other than that I'd suggest Blue Buffalo as their food pieces are also somewhat smaller than the standard size I've seen. Not as small as Earthborn, but still small. And it's an excellent food as well. EDIT: I know a lot of people believe cats should be fed wet food only, but if you feed a high quality dry food and ensure your cat is getting enough water/moisture in her, she will be fine. Dry food is not evil as a lot of people make it out to be, provided it's good quality. The reason dry food has such a bad rep is because generic brands like Purina and anything else you'll find at a supermarket have tons of filler ingredients - mostly grains, which cats don't need to begin with - that cause problems down the road and often lead to obesity. But with the one meal of wet food and a quality dry food, she should be fine. Just don't overfeed.
