Hi,
There's a lot of good suggestions here, but I bet if you stop by your library and run this by the librarian you'll get lots of free help and excellent resources.
Most librarians these days are experts with computers as well as subject matter.

It completely depends on the context of the presentation (Intenational poverty? poverty in your home country?) but I would go for a cause and effect kind of approach. Talk about how people get stuck in a cycle of poverty because of bad education systems, broken family structures, gangs, etc. Then you can talk about some of the effects, like lack of health care access, lowered life expectancy, high rates of depression, etc. And you might finish by talking about some ways that organizations are breaking a cycle of poverty (better education, mentor programs for kids, job training, etc).

Inner city La. it's absolutely ridiculous. include resources that poor people are provided with and which they are not able to obtain. I worked at a soup kitchen in January and it was extremely eye opening. Include main causes of poverty. and what the government does (hardly anything) for these people.

Focus on who is at risk, why are they at risk, who qualifies (income guidelines), local agencies to help, etc.
