It's hard to answer such an open-ended truism, but my guess is they're scared for the same reasons women are scared of pregnancy.
If they're in a relationship with you, they have to deal with the definite hormone imbalance and the very likely emotional rollercoaster that goes along with it - and they have to do that for at least 6 or 7 months straight.
Any type of ailment _can be_ very taxing on a relationship - when I found out I had cancer, and spent over 2 years being treated for it until now I am finally cancer free and back to work - it was very difficult, but it brought me and my wife closer together. In a lot of other couples it drives them apart.
Incidentally, I had a form of germ cell cancer in my anterior mediastinum - which gave off massive amounts of (get this) pregnancy hormones. I was an emotional wreck, and as soon as chemotherapy began working on me, I felt a million times more sane. So yes it's true that men can't get pregnant, but a lot of men have experienced some of the same symptoms of pregnancy and they just don't talk about it.
Is pregnancy a disease, or an illness? No it's not - but if a baby wasn't going to come out of you at the end of it all - would anybody want to go through all of it? It's a complete change to your entire way of life - so it's very scary for anybody that's a part of that way of life.
And obviously, if you're not in a serious relationship - they're probably afraid because you're not in a serious relationship and you're now making serious life plans. Like having a baby.

I don't think that you can judge all men the same, even my husband gets a little scared when I am pregnant. First of all, that is another child that he is financially responsible for, another child to protect, another child to raise....there are lots of reasons to be scared. My husband is also scared for me, i do not do well during pregnancy's and am a high risk, so he has fear for me, fear for our child.
For any man the when a women gets pregnant that is another life that they are responsible for, would that not scare you even a little?? it does me, there are allot of things that we as parents have to protect our children from, and the world doesn't seem to be getting much better so yes at times it can be scary for daddy's and mommy's!

Well, some of them just want sex and do not want children right away etc. Some guys are not scared of it and would do anything for the woman during her pregnancy after and before. It depends on the maturity level as well.

babies are a huge responsibility and even good guys freak out about it! It seems we deal with the emotions of actually being pregnant while many men stress about the responsibility of providing! It makes sense if you really think about it. You need support have you tried talking to him?

Cannot handle any stress or financial commitment. Not sure if I could ever trust the opposite sex. My mother is strict, manipulaive and very secretive. it contributed to my suspicious nature regarding he opposite sex. Plus, i was married to someone just like her. and for all i know, that is the nature of the opposite sex. i cannot cope with that.
and they don't call me scrooge for no reason.

i think its cause they have no other choice but to commit to a child, and it scares the hell out of them. and so they freak out a bit, but the mojority of them will get over it and step up to the situation.
