I'm so happy to know that there are still people who love Papa Roach as much as I do..... I thought everybody was getting over them.

In Kerrang! magazine a few months ago there was a humongous review about the Download Festival, and they gave Papa Roach's set a rating of 2/5. They were very cruel, saying Jacoby Shaddix "looked like Pete Wentz' older brother" and saying that their newer songs were "primary school anthems" and their older songs were "already an archaic embarassment". I was shocked when I read this! They clearly think the band are old news, not in the same league as other big rock bands these days..... which I agree with: they're in a league of their own!

Jacoby Shaddix is an absolute legend. He is so versatile: whether he is rapping, singing or screaming, he does it with incredibly profound emotion. His band is his life, he has a huge heart and his voice is just amazing.

Jerry Horton has provided just about 100 percent of the heavy rock crunch ever since the band formed. This man is one talented guitarist. Just listen to the riffs in songs such as "Between Angels And Insects", "Life Is A Bullet" and "She Loves Me Not" for proof.

Tobin Esperance is the band's groovemaster, dedicating his life to his bass guitar. As with any band, Tobin keeps the songs growling with depth with his rich sounding five-string bass. The heavy aspect of Papa Roach's music would just not be the same without him.

Dave Buckner is the skin basher of the foursome, and even though he's a big lad, his agility and intensity on the drum kit has always been nothing short of spectacular. He's one of the best modern drummers to ever grace a studio, and Papa Roach is his portfolio.

The tight friendships that these four blokes share is primarily what has gotten the band through to where they stand now. Without having each other's backs, both personally and professionally, these guys probably would've never made it this far.

But what about the music?

Most people are quick to call them "nu-metal". I think the term "nu-metal" is complete rubbish. It's a ridiculous genre that was created to describe music that combined heavy rock and hip hop. Problem is, most people use the term negatively. Nu-metal doesn't have the best reputation. To that I say this: if it's so bad then why have Linkin Park sold nearly fifty million albums worldwide? Why are they, along with the likes of Korn and Limp Bizkit, three of the most popular rock bands in history?

Papa Roach fits in with these bands, sure. Their first two albums featured Shaddix embracing his hip hop skills, as well as plenty of melodic singing and just a bit of fiery screaming. However, with the release of "Getting Away With Murder", the hip hop element was almost done away with entirely, and this change was continued with the band's most recent full-length, "The Paramour Sessions". While this change may have alienated some of their many fans, they undoubtedly pick up a whole heap of new ones, without ever coming close to "selling out".

With the genre of "nu-metal" slowly withering away to it's demise, Papa Roach was getting tired of the same old format, and while Paramour Sessions marked a new era for them in regards to the music, it still sounded like the Papa Roach everyone knew and loved.

Well, maybe I did get a little carried away there.... force of habit. I just feel so strongly about my favourite bands! I hope I didn't bore any of you with all of that!

I made my own Best Of compilation a while ago and ended up with a double CD. To pick my top 10 songs is incredibly difficult, but if my life depended on it, here would be the list:

1. "Between Angels And Insects"
2. "Blood (Empty Promises)"
3. "Life Is A Bullet"
4. "Last Resort"
5. "Dead Cell"
6. "Blood Brothers"
7. "Broken Home"
8. "Scars"
9. "Sometimes"
10. "Not Listening"

I could go on and on about Papa Roach for another hour or so, but you've heard me ramble on enough already.

Thanks for reading : )

First to Merman its "I tear my heart open, I sew myself shut"

Now...Papa Roach is my favorite band!!! I have four cds worth of their music! I hear they have the music and songs written for their next cd, all they have to do is record it!! Which means that they will tour (so hopefully that will be this time next year)! I really want to see them live. The one song that is on every cd that I make is SCARS. I fell in love with FOREVER and LAST RESORT is just a classic Papa Roach song.

Papa Roach rocks...I am so glad to see a Papa Roach question!

i know no bands like papa roach , but yes they are a great band, i think they kind of sold out, almost like they tried too hard to be liked and sell records, i think their best songs were tightrope, binge and never enough.
