Be an industrial partner to a small business.
Your services ( hard work ) is you contribution to business
operations. The owner will share his income with you
in proportion to the effort made.
You will not be an employee.
If the business does not have an income then you don't have an income. Just like working for commissions.

Please provide more details about yourself like your age, educational background, experience, your area and location etc. It will be much easier to respond to your question then.
But one field rewards hard work ( if you can produce results) is marketing / retailing. Normally it doesn't require money, if you know the suppliers. Try marketing.
