His invasion of Russian was a mistake and a disaster! He didn't count on the severity of the Russian winter, and he couldn't believe the Russian people would burn their own towns rather than let him capture them. It was that campaign that really ended his career. The Hundred Days campaign (ending in Waterloo) was simply an unsuccessful comeback attempt.

Napoleon's biggest fault was his own arrogance--He truly thought he was a deity by the end of his reign. Invading Russia was only a symptom of a much larger ego problem. Napoleon picked up after the French Revolution to overthrow a monarchy--many at the time thought he was mad to assume the role of "Emperor" so soon after titles of nobility were thrown away. Still, the French loved him until the end, even after he was deposed again by Louis XVIII and sent into exile he made a comeback to Paris. He was so charismatic, apparently he convinced all the troops that the newly reinstated king sent to stop him to lower their guns and follow him instead. Louis XVIII saw the writing on the wall and fled before he returned, and Napoleon was once again defeated on the battlefield against Prussia and England.

Certainly his invasion of Russia, but this was caused by his failure to deal with Britain properly. Napoleon was a great land commander, but he didn't understand sea power. Also, the "Spanish ulcer" was caused in part by Portugal continuing to trade with the British and becoming a base for Arthur Wellesley. Napoleon should have left Spain alone, it bled him dry of men and resources.
