Africa has a GDP growth rate that is the same as the US but their populating growth and fertility rates are much higher, so the people stay poor, Some regions like Zimbabwe have political unrest and even civil war which makes the problem worse. Despite the problems the US forbids the distribution of birth control as part of it aid and developed countries dumps excess subsidized food on the world market lowering prices and impoverishing Africa farmers. We should put realistic policies in place and stop playing domestics politics with our policy toward Africa.

edit: Bio fuels made from sugar cane is better that those made form corn, but we ban imports of it depriving poor tropical countries of a profitable cash crop instead of helping them develop their industry.

There are many environmental groups that do not want poorer nations to industrialise the same way the West did, because of the ecological ramifications.

By preventing development, they are condemning human beings to inevitable disease and death.

We need to get these countries industrialised as soon as possible. Only then can we transfer them onto greener energies, raise their standard of living, and hopefully make their countries more stable.

On a smaller scale, we should give aid to these countries. God knows they need it more than us.

Until the power base is changed, all the aid in the world will be stolen or resold. It is a sad commentary, but nothing short of total accountability by the UN will change the outcome.

I have felt for a very long time, that these poor countries could be best served through birth control. Literal alterations. If you cannot feed a child once it leaves the breast, what the hell were you thinking?

i've never seen it spelled that way. i do remember when it was rhodesia. some of the problems are due to the policies of the governments in power there.

and then you have all the environmentalist groups that don't want poor countries to develop.
