As a political figure, Rizal was the founder of La Liga Filipina, a civic organization that subsequently gave birth to the Katipunan[6] led by Andres Bonifacio and Emilio Aguinaldo. He was a proponent of institutional reforms by peaceful means rather than by violent revolution. The general consensus among Rizal scholars, however, attributed his martyred death as the catalyst that precipitated the Philippine Revolution.

Jose Rizal is the National Hero for the Philippines for he has inspired many of our heroes thru his writing to fight for the independence of our country from the clutches of the Spaniards who has put our countrymen in despair.
He was a great communicator who has used his pen to arouse every Filipinos love for their country and has fired up the hearts of every Filipino to regain their lost national pride due to their subservience to the Spaniards and Filipinos whose love for power has engulfed their soul.
He did not only wrote the Noli Metangere and El Filibustirismo (which becomes the bible of our Katipuneros) the many wrongdoings done to our country and countrymen but also sacrificed his own self for the glory of the Philippines ., and brought fear to the hearts of many Spaniards for they know now ,Filipino will die for his country and countrymen. Through his writing many heroes have fought and died like Bonifacio , Mabini , Aquino and many others that follow . Until now the writings of Jose Rizal inspires generations of this country and other countries as well .

Have you been in Manila? There is a park near the US Embassy called Luneta Park. From the embassy, walk facing North along Roxas Blvd. At your right side, you can see Rizal's bronze monument overlooking the famous Manila Bay.
The flagpole beside him is the Kilometer Zero of the Philippines. Just like he is standing at the middle of the Philippine archipelago. He should be the greatest Filipino of all times.
