I was watching a show the other night on the health channel about sex and how 4 million years ago or whatever we were still like chimps or monkeys or whatever. so what would happen if the two had sex? would it even work? if it did what would the baby look like???
i know that there are many different species of monkeys, so would it work with any of them? even a gorilla or whatever?
serious answers are appreciated! :)

a) Gorillas and chimps are apes, not monkeys.

b) A bonobo might be able to engage in sex with a human, but that is extremely gross and would not be capable of producing any offspring, no.

c) Serious questions are appreciated!

It is orangutans, not gorillas, which are know to occasionally sexually assault human females (analogous behaviors are a part of the species natural courtship behavior).
As to inter-fertility: the general consensus seems to be that the genetic differences between humans and any extant primate species are too great for hybridization. In the molecular biology community there have long been unconfirmed rumors of various researchers attempting in vitro fertilization of chimpanzee ova with human sperm. If these tales are to be believed, the resultant embryos cease development within a few days.
Of course, this may be the scientific version of an urban legend.

Biologically it would not be possible. Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes while chimps have 24. That is just ONE reason, there are actually many more.
We did indeed evolve from primates. The reason why there are no chimps giving birth to humans is because we only share a common ancestor with chimps. Somewhere, a long time ago, there was a primate type species which evolved into more than one other type of species, example: humans and chimpanzees. Therefore, now in current times, we are no longer biologically close enough to produce offspring with a chimp or any other primate.
In short, it would be like getting your tabby cat to have a kitten with a lion.
Good luck!

Chimpanzees are the closest apes to us having about 96% of the same genes. Until recently the percentage was higher.

You can see the difference a few percentage points make. Humans and chimps are separate species and genetically can breed. The split between them occurred some 6 million years ago

As one site put it "Chromosomes 1, 4, 5, 9,12, 15, 16, 17 and 18 in humans have inversions of major tracts of code compared with homologous chromosomes in chimpanzees" Translation: they can't produce offspring.

Nothing would happen but be careful of a gorilla. Julia Roberts was doing a nature show in the wild with a gorilla and the gorilla decided he wanted her. It took a bunch of men to keep the gorilla away. She was very shook up about it. I live near where she when to high school and they say no one in high school was interested in dating her. She would probably say that a gorilla is smarter than Georgia rednecks.

no it wouldn't work because we have a different number of chromosomes than monkeys. So a baby can't be formed

She might be really disappointed, unless it was a gorilla. Most have pretty little weenies.
They are really strong-they might not be done with once. It could get ugly.
If you mean, would she conceive, no, it is inconceivable. haha
It would be like having sex with a giraffe-tall skinny children-uh, no!
Or a dophin-slippery kids that can swim and smell like fish.
hmm.
If is ever could work-like by engineering-the baby would be one butt-ugly child- and sterile-like a mule is.
Cross between a horse and a donkey.

A mule is the offspring of a horse and a donkey. Two mules can not produce offspring together. This tells us that two very similar species can produce offspring. The biological makeup of humans and monkeys are close enough that we can communicate diseases to each other. SARS is an example. I have no idea if we're similar enough that we can produce offspring. It might be interesting to try, though.

We have different numbers of chromosomes. So nothing would happen....also the human and monkey reproduction organs would not match up.....if you know what I mean.
