Do you think it would be so abundant on other planets in distant galaxies that the beings there wouldn't value it as much as we do?

silly Brak! Have you never heard of "Voga is also known as the Planet of Gold. A wandering asteroid captured by Jupiter's orbit, it is homeworld to the Vogans and contains more gold than in the rest of the known galaxy. The Cybermen try to destroy it in Revenge of the Cybermen."?

Gold was produced by the energy of supernova explosions, as another answer has already stated. But as to the percentage found in the crust of other planets, it could vary. I think all the Gold that has ever been found on Earth amount to 100,000 tonnes, not a lot really. So the chances of it existing in large amounts is also very slim.
We would do well to look for gold when we start to travel to Mars, since the forces which created Earth also created Mars.

We can estimate the relative abundance of gold throughout the galaxy and maybe even the Universe. We know how it is made and it can only come from supernova explosions. It is highly unlikely that it will be more than a trace element anywhere.

And asdfg..., what do you mean? The existence of gold has nothing to do with the existence of oxygen.

As far as gold goes, yeah, perhaps there is a planet with high quantities of gold.even mountains of gold.

Sure, if it was extremely common, then its value wouldn't be that high.

Selling gold there would be like selling beans, corn, or sand.

I wonder what we would have here on earth that we could get rich off of quick, if we sold it to them....

silicon?
how about stupid people?

1. It is possible that gold and other metals do exist in other planets, but at this moment we don´t know.
2. We don´t know if there are beings in other planets either.
