Well, Yoko played a small part of it but the bigger picture was that they were starting to go in different directions.. they broke onto the scene really young and just started becoming interested in different things as they became older.

They had already quit touring and they each became more involved in other pursuits that they felt were important.
Great site to check out is their official site.. www.beatles.com

It was not because of Yoko Ono. True, John Lennon was spurred by Yoko to leave the band but he already was considering it. The reasons for the breakup of the group was John's drug problem, George feeling like a second-rate member of the group, and Paul taking over everything. The other Beatles felt like they were nothing more than sidemen to Paul. Ringo began feeling like he wasn't really needed and briefly quit the group in 1968. That was because after he left the studio, Paul would dub in his own drum parts in place of Ringo's. Then George couldn't get his songs recorded and that bothered him a great deal. The breakup of the group was inevitable. You could tell that they were splintering as a band on their later albums. All the songs sounded like they were performed by the group member who sang lead and a backup band. There was no longer this sense of unity as in the earlier days. I think it's a good thing they broke up when they did. They left while still on top and never went into the long slow decline that other bands experience when they've been around too long.

Lots of people blame Yoko, but I've read books and articles that have said Linda was just as much to blame. Really, there's not one simple answer, but the most sufficient is probably just that they had been together for a long time and were heading in different directions. Sadly, not all bands can last forever.
