I fell yesterday and all of my body weight fell full force against the side of the tub across my abdomen. I am really sore on my right rib cage and don't know if it is just bruised or if I cracked a rib. There is no visual bruising. How can you tell the difference? I am having my gallbladder removed on Wed. This soreness is NOT my gallbladder. It is definitely from the fall. Will this affect the surgery at all?

I can breath fine but it hurts when I laugh and the discomfort goes from my ribs on the side to the rib area in my back.

see a doctor; an x-ray is the only way to know. besides if you want your surgery to go through smoothly and quickly, you should have this checked out before you go in for your gallbladder surgery. if you just wait till the morning of your surgery and mention it to them then, it might take them a while to clear you for the procedure.

I would go directly to a doctor. I fell off a horse at full force and thought I had cracked my rib. There was no bruising on me either. The doc did an xray and found the tissue to be extremely bruised underneath the rib and said that the bruising may never fully reach the top. Either way it would be good to see a doc to make sure.

They can't do much except tell you which it is. You can tape up your chest to keep it tight with ace bandages. There is not much that can be done for bruised or cracked ribs.

The doctor can tell you if the rib is cracked and dislocated and a danger to puncturing a lung!!!
