or eco-friendly funeral? A traditional burial is bad for the environment. a lot of embalming fluid goes into the ground, trees are cut down to make coffins, and cement burial plots put tons of cement into the earth. the cemeteries are unusable for anything but burying the dead, and we are starting to run out of room.
a green funeral buries a person without embalming them, into a natural bio-degradable casket, are buried without the cement, and they go into a wildlife preserve or other natural area.
its something i would want for myself. what do you think? would you consider something like this?

i should add, for those concerned about the cost, that it is considerably less expensive than a traditional burial.

I think we should totally over-throw the entire "death industry" and all the social tentacles attached to it. Start burying our own, on our own property, with our own concepts of "remembrance" and "tradition". Hunter S. Thompson had it right. Shoot your remains out of a cannon in your own backyard, while all your friends make music and party...

I totally agree to not use embalming fluid, what's the point? I don't want an open casket anyway. And I want the cheapest, no frills casket, would rather see the money spent on my kids, so I am leaning green, as far as being buried in a preserve or natural area....that would be fine I guess, but is it legal?

Basically what you're describing is what cemeteries used to be like with no controls on them. No thanks! Just go visit a very old deserted cemetery and compare that to a beautiful modern one. See which one makes better use of the space and is more useful for people to visit. To each his own but that is just a creepy idea that few people would ever want to do. Why not just cremate? Don't use up the ground at all that way.

Interesting question. Would you have any qualms about wild animals digging up your remains and gnawing on them? Or a little kid finding your femur while out on a Boy Scout hike? As opposed as I tend to be to senseless earth friendly activities, this actually sounds somewhat intriguing.
Thanks for posting.

Absolutely. It'll be a green one or it'll be cremation -- I've not really decided yet, but cemeteries have never made sense to me.

I've always hope that I'll have a grave people will come visit every once in awhile.
But if that's not gonna happen, then hell yeah, I don't mind

Absolutely...I've always said just throw my body in a ditch and let it rot...after you take what other people can still use, of course

interesting info............
My husband and i would prefer to be Cremated, and have a Memorial service, instead of our loved ones coming to see us in a coffin!
That is just my opinion, no offense to anyone!
