"Jim Crow" was a slang term for a black man in the 19th century, from the title of an old minstrel song.

New England and the Northeast used to be the Conservative states for those here to young to remember. The reason the South went Conservative is the influx of Northerners moving South. In the early 50's I witnessed the injustice when traveling through the South. I remember as a young man the feeling of resentment I bore for the South that Black W W 2 Veterans that fought for America could not vote or enjoy the same things I took for granted in Ca. Later in life I was stationed in Fla. and relieved at the changes that had taken place.

The name Jim Crow was the name of a character in a song that was about an African-American.
