If they are illegals (and that is a big if) then they likely do not have access to a bank account. Illegals use those (rip-off, preditory) check cashing places (or get paid in cash), and hold the cash to pay bills and then if there is any left, they Western Union it back to their families in Ciudad Juarez, etc.

Or it could just be a latin phenomenon that the white establishment does not understand; like Ricky Martin.

Well, here's my theory: they're here illegally, their employers hired them illegally, so naturally, they're paid in cash at the end of the week, under the table. That's ok, though. The rest of us will pay the taxes for them, no problem, right?? P.S.: Oh, look, we're even paying enough for their benefits that they can afford a computer to give me a thumbs-down! Sure must be nice!

Because they don't have the citizenship or papers to prove they are allowed to live in the US, so they can't get a bank account and have to settle for whatever their under the table employeers pay them.

Well there are a lot of Migrant workers out here that get paid under the table and often get paid in larger bills and don't have banking accounts and pay everything in cash. Nothing wrong with that. It is just what they get paid and they use it instead of using credit cards, debit cards, checks, or smaller bills. Most of them buy everything they need as soon as they get paid.

they get paid in cash for lots of things and it is easier for the employer to use big bills, I used to work in a goodwill and on sunday afternoon they came in after being paid and they had 50's as the smallest bill. they were harvesting mellons and Sweet corn in Iowa and they don't have checking accounts.

Easier to count, besides it takes a lot of pesos to buy things. If they are in the USA they may not be using ATM machines so not getting a stack of 20's.

Many Mexican shoppers pool their money and buy in quantity, I detect some some nastiness in these comments.

it's called INFLATION my dear.

simply put, their currency is not worth as much as say the US dollar or British pound sterling

this means that they have to use more of their money to buy the same things you could get for a buck or two
