A thesis statement is one sentence that states the overall main idea of a piece of writing longer than one paragraph. It is to an essay what a topic sentence is to a paragraph. If you just type "thesis statement" into the "search for questions" box on this site, you should find quite a bit more.

a thesis statement is usually used in a 5-paragraph essay. It is in the introduction and states what your three body paragraphs are going to be about. So say your essay is about how you think your teacher is very heroic..so three qualities that make her/him herioc is blank, blank, and blank.

ex: She is very heroic because she is very responsible, smart, and is always in a happy mood.

and then in your three paragraphs, you would give examples on how or when she was responsible, smart, and always in a happy mood.
you also re-state your thesis in your conclusion.
anyways..and it is also towards the end of your intro paragraph. Like b4 the concluding sentence of your intro..
hope this helps!
