I have somewhat large oval shaped eyes. I absolutely LOVE wearing mascara, it makes them really stand out..but for some reason, eyeliner looks SO bad on me. Why is that?
I'd really like my eyes to stand out more, look wide awake and a bit dramatic...but when I wear eyeliner, it makes them seem smaller and takes away from the color of my eyes a bit (I have blue-green-grey eyes with gold around the pupil.)
I don't want to wear a ton of dark eye make-up, I'd just like some definition near my lash line and make my eyes stand out and open up more....really pop. any tips on wearing eyeliner? Or does it just not look right on everyone?

well, it's probably the color eyeliner your wearing. depends what color eyes you have. black is probably too harsh

For that previous comment FYI: makeup does not make the woman it is only an enhancer of ones beauty. As far as eyeliner I would suggest you try a dark brown or a black brown eyeliner or espresso from MAC. However, black may be too harsh for your eyes and skin tone. Try out different eye liners and see what works for you. Black is very harsh on me too so I wear dark browns. If all else fails just do not wear eyeliner because you would look better with out it than bad with it. Good luck and I hope this helped.

I understand exactly what you re going through, I have the same problem. Not everybody s eye shape is suited for eyeliner, I have deep set eyes and it just make me look horrible. If you have rounder eyes you may want to make sure you wing them out. Also try and experiment with the size of the line. I found that I can slightly pull off eyeliner with a very thin line and a wing. If you want more drama towards the lash line try using an angled brush and darker eyeshadow and gently sweep it where your liner would be and see how you like it. This is going to sound crazy, but I still tend to hate the look of eyeliner on me, but I love the way the wing accentuates my eye shape, so I usually just draw the wing.. it sounds weird but I find it looks best on me.

well i have really small eyes and i used to think the same thing when i wore eyeliner on my lash line. but this could be becasue you havent woren the eyeliner long enough to have gotten used to it. or maybe u put it on too thick. try applying a thinner line instead of a thick line. and once u have reached the outer part of ur eyes...extend the liner out and up. you may applying the liner in a down or u may not even be extending it out at all. if this doesnt work then u may need to a get a different color eyeliner bc the color may be too dark for u.

it may be the way you're applying it.
it also could also be the color you're using. if you're using black, it may be a bit too heavy for you since you have blue-green-grey eyes.
try a tealish color. MAC has great colors (as you probably know already) but try experimenting if you're only using black.
also, if you're applying it to the bottom, make sure it's on the inside of your eyelid. when i first started applying makeup, i put the eyeliner like almost underneath my bottom eyelid and it looked stupid. So make sure you pull down your eyelid a bit, but not too much because if you make a habit of pulling it down, it will have an effect on your face.

Do you use dark eyeliner? Do you apply it from one end to the other? Well if your doing any of these that's why it looks bad. Try using gel liners or any liner your comfortable with in purple, green or navy blue.You can smudge it if you like or just leave it alone.Don't apply it all the way start from the middle and work your way out also don't make the line thick.

well, its probably the color.if youre using black, id suggest brown. and i dont like eyeliner on the top of the eye anyways.i think it drags it down.heres something else you can do instead of using eyeliner:
1.put mascara on one eye
2.dont put it back into the tube!after you put it on that eye, use whatevers left on the brush and brush it onto the bottom lashes
3.repeat on other eye
it might take some getting used to
oh yea, and you could also try using white eyeliner and then the masara on the bottom lashes.the white eyeliner makes my eyes so much brighter

I put mine only near the outer edges of mine, away from the center of my face. It makes them look a bit larger horizontally and adds to one's eyelashes.
But then again, I'm Asian ^^;;
I suggest wearing it mostly on the bottom. That's what really opens up your eyes. When you wear it on both the top and bottom, it can sometimes make your eyes sunken in, giving them that tired look.
Also, make sure you wear it with eyeshadow. That will help drag the shape out a bit to make them look bigger. Just plain mascara and liner will sometimes make your face appear stark and washed out.
Good luck!!

I have the same problem. I want to do the dramatic look with some cool black liner, but it just doesn't look nice. I have hazel eyes so I love my eyes to stand out. Black liner just doesn't look nice on me, so I tried brown. Brown looks great and it makes my eyes stand out more. Maybe you just need to find a different color.

1] color - try espresso brown, charcoal gray, purple, navy, emerald vs. black
2] use very thin lines - eyeliner is supposed to make you look like your lashline is lush.
3] line along lashes ONLY - not from inner corner to circle entire eye! Especially important if you have hooded, small, or
droopy eyes!
4] be sure to do a tiny upswoop at upper outer corner of eye

you're probably applying it in the wrong place. like for example, if i put on eyeliner on both my upper and lower lids my eyes look TINY... so instead i apply a VERY thin line to the upper lid but i focus more ont he corner of my eye to make it pop. And a LITTLE BIT on the bottom.. like just the corner... try that, but don't go too crazy. That will just give your eye some definition and make u look good
HOPE IT HELPED =}
