I don't believe a hero is born. I also think that the question and answer also depends on how you define a hero. If you are talking about someone rushing into a burning building to save a trapped person, then that person must be someone who has been brought up to think of others as well as themselves. So that makes a hero made by upbringing.
But hero's can come in all shapes and sizes, when you think of the father who works 18 hours a day and two jobs so his kids can get a decent education, or the people who do volunteer work for underprivileged. I don't think they where born a hero either, they just shaped themselves into one.

Everyone is born with the ability to be a hero. However they are made a hero when they make a sacrifice. So, both. A hero is born but in time made into a hero.

It's false. Anyone can be a hero given the right circumstances.

Ok, I just rethought that. Everyone is born with the potential to be a hero. In that case, it is true.

However, not everyone is put in the circumstances in which they may rise to the occasion.
