First of all, there is no such thing as a "radical conservative". Its a name made up purely for derogatory purposes.
And it is the democrats that have gone so far to the left in their mainstream efforts.
Now let me do something you never do; support my stand with FACTS.
John Kennedy was considered one of the greatest democrats to be president. Look at his policies. Today Kennedy would be considered a Republican.
Look at how far the democratic party has shifted left since Kennedy was president.
And "mainstream" America has picked a Republican president 20 out of the last 28 years.
And Clinton's policies were so far to the left he was solely responsible for a solid Republican Congress.
You evidently don't know the definition of mainstream.
Facts are the worst enemy of a liberal.

If only they'd stop watching Rant TV and allowing ideas to be crammed into their noggin. The ranting shows they watch evokes emotion and THAT is what influences them, whether or not the hosts have any idea what they're talking about. Common sense. And it needs to stop...
The country would be a better, less polarized place.
Brandon A, democratic candidates NEVER argued over who is less liberal. And thanks for sharing arbitrary, irrelevant events in history to try and prove your point. I guess you don't care about the counter-arguments to your points, such as Clinton CRUSHING Bush senior in the '92 election. Next time try answering questions only when you know what you are talking about. It's a better idea.

Here is a quick test.
At the republican debates they argue over who is more conservative.
At the democratic debates they argue over who is less liberal.
Both paties want to get elected ergo they both believe America will not vote for a liberal.
Here are some examples. Jimmy Carter was crushed as the incumbant to Ronald Reagan because of his liberal views. Never in the history of America has an incumbant lost so badly.
Mc Govern......liberal............another landslide. This time democrats only got 1 state out of 50.
Therefore I conclude your question is wishful thinking on your part.

I think you are right on both counts - there is a bias by conservatives and they are blinded by the fact that mainstream America has turned more normal.

I actually just said something like this in another thread.
Yes, it's not that most people are so "liberal". It's that, compared to the radical right...everything seems liberal by contrast. An example of this would be the ongoing comments from the right-wingers that their own candidates, like Giuliani and Paul... are "closet liberals".
Compared to the hard right, almost everyone seems liberal...even a whole bunch of Republicans!!
Here's a YA thread that highlights exactly what I'm saying:

If you had any historical perspective you'd understand that the Left are the radical ones. Most Americans were at least as conservative as the "Radical Right" fifty years ago. The left keeps getting more radical and since Conservatives are so different from them, they think the Conservatives are radical.

I hear ya.
For example, Dennis Kucinich's ideas are solidly old-school Democrat and he is portrayed as a mental institution escapee.
The corporatist mainstream media is very powerful in contemporary politics.
