Here's the sentence:

Johnny denies this and says he does still play with them, but Ariel says, “Not like you used to.”

Is the period in the end at the right place, or does it go after the quotation marks, or is it supposed to be another way? All help is appreciated.

Punctuation marks, in sentences with quotation marks, always go inside the quotes. You also had a run-on sentence, so I took out the 'but.' :)

Period always goes inside the quotations if it's a complete sentence in the dialogue. No need to put another on the outside, just capitalize the beginning letter of the next sentence.
