I'm afraid I haven't heard of the Philippines as being referred to as Garden of Eden. Yes it's true, it's like Paradise in our beautiful country. But there's something quite negative about the "Garden of Eden" tag....it's as if there's too much debauchery going on...and I'd like to believe it's nothing like that at all. So please forgive me if I take this article with a grain of salt.

"... widely known as the Garden of Eden...." The Eco-Tourism magazine might have featured natural attractions in the Philippines, but I'm sure giving the country this label, though flattering, is just an exagerated gesture, done to promote tourism tie-ups.
While I will not deny a majority of the islands in the Republic are so prestine in beauty, comparable to the Biblical Paradise more commonly referred to as "The Garden of Eden", only naturalists/ nature lovers and environmentalists refer to our country as such, and they are, regretably, few in number.
Our national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, in his death poem referred to the country as their Lost Eden ("Nuestro Perdido Aden) only in the sense that he and his family, as well as most of those associated with "insurgency" against Spanish rule, were exiled.
Today, to some, if not most of OFWs (Overseas Filipino workers) like me, this phrase might also hold true. For the better part of contract years, our home, our Eden is lost to us.

I don't know how the author of that article could have viewed the Philippines as the Garden of Eden in the world. But that is his/her opinion, anyway. I am a Filipino and I live in the Philippines however, I beg to differ from the author's opinion. I can't see how the country could be compared to Eden (in the Bible) except perhaps in the many treacherous snakes that abound.

If that's his opinion then I may say he/she appreciate our country than people who live here do,they keep on blaming/complaining the politics, government system and everyday crimes. We cannot twist his/her opinion but I feel honored that a foreign person[if he is]appreciates our place,I won't complain nor object,I rather take it than those travel advisory exaggeratedly air in some country.

Now that you mentioned it, maybe we are now called that. I just hope they are not referring to naked people (bar girls) in the Philippines as representatives of the people of Eden.
