He has never visited there and I know it will be cold and very snowy outdoors. However, I would like to enjoy my time there and not be detained indoors with my family the whole time. Thanks for any suggestions that are cost effective!

Ice fishing is popular, but there's no safe ice yet. It's usually January or February before the ice is thick enough for fishing.

December isn't the best time of year for outdoor stuff in Minnesota. It's cold but not cold enough for real winter fun like snowmobiling or cross country skiing.

Mall of America. St.Paul/Minneapolis! There's an indoor theme park with roller coaster and everything! And shopping. And an aquarium! We were there four years ago, and we could have spent DAYS there.
