Is Muskegon, Michigan, a nice place to live or is it too poor?

I am hoping to get opinions about this area of the state due to a proposed move.

Muskegon is the Beer Tent Capitol of the World. Need I say more?

The state is beautiful and Lake Michigan is a recreational heaven. The people are very friendly. There is substantial industry in the area, but I wouldn't work at the Consumer's Power coal-powered electric plant. At one point this employer was voted the most undesirable employer in the country.
