I think you're confusing that with sales tax. Usually it's 6-8% depending what state or county the restaurant is in.
Canada has prepared food tax & regular tax, however.

If you haven't noticed, all fast foods charge taxes. It's mainly for the paper products that come with your meals. Paper products are taxable. How to you plan to carry your food in?

It really depends on what state you live in...when I was a restaurant manager in Las Vegas we had to ask dine in to carry out because if it was dine in there was tax if it was take out it was no tax.

on the reciept it says "dine in tax"....thats not a charge for eating in it is simply a sales tax....look over your reciept again....your not gettin "dine in tax" in addition to "sales tax" or next time go through the drive thru..you will see the same "dine in tax" thats because its simply a sales tax nd nothing more
