Years ago my neighbour had outdoor Christmas lights with an adaptor that plugged into the bayonet fitting on his porch light.

Basically, instead of training cable from outdoors to indoors, he removed the bulb on his porch light and plugged in the lights.

The lights were string variety...

Does anyone know of this adaptor or plug that I can attach to outdoor lights?

Oh and before anyone says.."Ask the neighbour...he moved!

The item you are looking for WAS called a BC (bayonet cap) adaptor. But these were banned many years ago as they were considered unsafe. Best to get an external socket fitted with an RCD for protection.

I know what you are talking about as I had the same adaptor for INDOOR lights once when I wanted to put my tree in the hall and there was no socket nearby. Try a local electrical shop rather than the likes of B&Q. I think the previous answerer is right when he said these are now banned and I certainly dont think it is safe to use these for outdoor lights. It isnt a huge job to get a proper external socket fitted by a qualified electrician. I did this last year and it is so handy for lots of things including garden appliances and hoovering the car etc.

Happy Christmas !

Yes. There is a screw in adapter that takes the place of the bulb. Hardware stores and some grocery stores, as well as Walmart ect, sell those adapters. They are a 2 prong only device with no ground. Be aware, the light fixture is most likely not GFCI protected, as outdoor receptacles should be, so don't handle the wet, snow covered cords and lights while they are plugged in.
