they have a great fan base, only thing is the series hasnt been very interesting, your typical fan doesnt care much for either of the sox teams, and the teams the national league has put in the series, were just there as comic relief
everyone knew, for the past few series, who was going to win, bostons first run had some interest, because it had been so long, but that only went so far, last year, as exciting as colorados run was, noone could have possibly thought they had a shot at beating boston, i am suprised that there wasnt more interest in the cards/tigers series though
what needs to happen is a series completelely devoid of the upper east coast powerhouses (sox, yanks, mets) thatll help

Well the reason that the ratings are down is because the last couple of World Series have been either sweeps or 5 game Series. And to be honest if the Yankees ever make it to a World Series again the ratings are going to sky rocket. The Yankees and like the Dodgers would get such a good rating because all the real fans would watch the game plus all the fake Yankee fans would watch the games plus the Dodgers have a large fanbase as well.

This will be a very tough question to answer. It seems to me that fans of Major League Baseball aren't interested in the World Series, and the only way they are if one of the 2 teams that play in it, is thier team. But the fact is that only 2 teams can play for it, and only 1 team can actually win it. Maybe if Major League Baseball cleans up it act, fixes all the mistakes they have made, ban for life the players that have taken the steriods, then just maybe the fans will return to watching it again. But I can't say this for sure, or even promise you that they will. And of coruse there could be a chance that they don't correct thier mistakes and fans may never return. And maybe it is also the TV annouers that got of kill it for the fans, all this decade FOX have gone with Joe Buck and Tim McCarver for the call of the World Series games, and maybe fans might not like this pair of broadcasters. Not that I am saying that I have a problem with these 2 annoucers. Will baseball ever return to what they once were, I have no idea, but they are surely sinking fast, if not they have already sunk.

Not too much. The hardest thing they have going for them is the game series. These days people are so busy that the general public won't take a week off their schedule to see some games.
The only chance is with big name teams that have a fan base around the country playing each other.

The steroid scandal could actually help to generate some interest... also some big games and chases... a great pennant race...
