if I buy a domain fromm godaddy,
then what?
do i have to give my hosting company right away?
can i wait, then assign where to host?

I don't think it's advertised, but when you buy from godaddy, they give you a free credit for hosting from their site. I just started a website last night from godaddy. It's small but at least you can get your pages written and the majority of the graphics needed to run it.----
Yes you can assign your hosting company right away or wait. It doesn't require that you assign a hosting company right away. When you just pay for a domain through godaddy, it will be "parked" for free. Where if you typed up the domain name, it'll say something like " www.domain.com is parked fro free at godaddy.com", and it will display godaddy ads going back to their main page.

Yes, you can change hosts whenever you want. Or just buy one from GoDaddy.

domain names and hosts usually work together on things lke this so pay for your domain name an tell your host and they will work it out
