Communism, in it's purest form, is the communal ownership of a countries economic assets. An individual cannot own a farm, for example - it belongs to the whole population - the farmer just works it for the benefit of everyone.
True communist societies exist only as very small groups - like the Israeli kibbutzim - where everyone knows everyone else, everyone is there because they want to be, and everyone knows who's not pulling his weight.
The first true communist society was the colony of the "Pilgrim Fathers" at Plymouth Rock, in MA.
They discovered VERY rapidly, though, after nearly starving to death the first winter, that what seemed like a good idea in a warm coffee house in London wasn't such a good idea in the wilds of the America's, and they abandoned communal ownership after the first year.

Communism is an idea of how society should work and be organized. Communism is a a type of socialism that says that there should not be social classes or states. Communism says that the people of a country should all own the tools, factories, and farms that are used to produce goods and food. Social organization is based on common ownership of the means of production.
It is a political way of thinking. It is also a description of how some countries have been governed, such as China and the former Soviet Union.

Jessica, all communists are socialists.
They believe that when the whole world, especially
including the U.S.A. is socialist then under a one
world socialist government a perfect communal type
government will emerge.
There will be no need for religion for salvation because
selfishness and greed will be eliminated by the fact
that no matter what you do for a living or how well
you do it, everyone will receive the same amount of
pay.
People will work simply for the love of working, not
to gain personal property. Everyone will become
better people because of the world socialist system.
I spent years studying this movement. E mail me for more
info or even copies of some pages of these books. I have a
shelf of stuff in my library.

Communism is an ideology built on the idea that the community is controlled by the riches while the poor are eating dust . the theory as i understood it is the distribution of wealth by not allowing somebody to own more than a house or more than a car and all businesses are shared by the government . the rulers are supposed to be the common people (the workers ) . all production agricultural or industrial is supposed to be produced collectively while nobody has his own cattle or his own ranch .
this ideology was a huge anger in retaliation for the riches before communism who showed unproportional amount of greed and exploitation of the ordinary guy . people
criticized communism greatly at the time for being able only to make people equally poor . it was a big a failure because the workers who became rulers in Russia and China became riches and didn't allow a peaceful transfer of authority as supposed to be . Communism collapsed because of wide spread corruption that went unpunished .
