Can anyone tell me why my computer keeps getting pop-ups while I'm not running any programs? The pop-ups are from IE but I uninstalled IE. They just keep coming! I tried fire-walls and pop-up blockers but they don't work. please, if anyone has any information on how to stop these pop-ups, I'd really appreciate it.
thanks.

Are the pop-ups ads or are the pop ups message boxes? If they're message boxes this could be saying your IE uninstaller messed up, leaving enough parts of IE to send the messages looking for an answer...Starting to look like 2001 A Space Odyssey, huh? .

It's not adware as said above, it's a browser hijack. I had the same problem and I found that the spyware protection programs actually triggered it. I uninstalled my spyware program and no more popups. Also, if you disconnect yourself from the internet it shouldn't do anything although not sure. Once you uninstall your spyware program then you still have a virus of some kind. If you have ever used Limewire email me and I will talk you through how to get rid of it. You need to hire a proffessional to really get rid of it though.

You have adware. This virus causes extensive amounts of pop-ups. I recommend getting a software, such as the Norton line, or get Microsoft Defender. I am confident about Norton in getting the adware, but Defender - I just think that's for other viruses.
