Nothing is impossible with computers. Your roommates story sounds very strange to me. If some one is hacking him, they would not put their files in his pc. They would install a trojan keylogger to steal all of his data. Plus if they are hidden, how does your roommate know where they are??.
Hackers don't play mind games with you. They are in the business to steal data and sell it for money.. Or turn your pc into a "Zombie", and use it for adware. Get rich quick.
How does your roommate, know they get mad.
My professional opinion it is all in his head. Or what he is using his PC for like P2P. (Sharing of files).

sounds like your roommate is a little strange. Yea, someone can moniter you remotely but how would he know they have hidden files, and how does he know they get mad? Either way, it would be pretty hard and they would have to have had access to his computer. My guess is that he bought the computer from someone he didn't know, like off ebay. And then they put a hidden remote access program on there. I'd find out who he bought it from. If it's a dell or IBM computer, someone had access to it somewhere along the line. You can't completely do that remotely you need to have access fully to the computer to actually control it like that. Hope you get that problem fixed, if your roommate isn't crazy. Hackers won't really do stuff with you. Although some sick person could sell it on ebay to screw with people....

if he runs windows , they share a lot of files for each account on PC and yes there are a lot of files that are hidden so they can't be deleted by the person at the keyboard unless he knows how.

yes, they can have remote access if his computer is not protected but i would guess that he is downloading programs on a p2p file sharing program and has recieved a virus that may be replicating itself in his files. he should run a virus scan to check that out and also add a good firewall program to help protect his computer.
good luck

sounds like a story to me... but, anything is possible... you can remotely administer a pc from an alternate location if they knew all his credentials. But you can always find this stuff, try moosoft.com pandasoftware.com trend.com bitdefender.com ect find the supposed infection and remove it, unplug modem while doing this so it has a nights power rest (reset ip ect)
