I believe you're correct; prokaryotic cells (or prokaryotes).
Includes simple bacteria, in the kingdom Monera.
Prior to these were the "coacervates", possibly cellular precursors.

the first cells in the fossil evidence were blue gree algea... and... looks golly gee like modern blue green algea

if one has great faith in evolution you have to grasp in hope against hope there was an RNA world and cells without nucleus but that would be setting evidences aside and puttin ones faith in evolution

the fossil record says the bototm layers made by the flood of Noah had lots of blue green algea.. larger critters scurried higher
