Here's a fun game for all you name-lovers. I'm compiling a list of twin names that match in a subtle way (like be meaning or by origin), instead of by rhyming or first letter. Please help! (Maybe by this list we can convince some expectant mothers not to name their children Emma and Jemma or Aiden and Jaden.) The names should still be cute, should coordinate (not one plain English and one exotic African), and should sound good in modern Amerian society.

My examples:
-- Helen ("light") and Claire ("bright") and Lucy ("light")
-- Kate ("pure") and Lily ("pure") and Susannah ("lily")
-- Leila ("dark-haired") and Keira ("dark")
-- Ella ("elfin") and Aubrey ("king of the elves")
-- Mary (virgin mother) and Diana (virgin goddess)
-- Hannah ("grace") and Charissa (Greek "grace")
-- Phoebe ("moon") and Celene ("moon") and Luna ("moon") and Diana (moon goddess) and Neoma (Greek "moon")
-- Leila (Persian "dark; night") and Nisha (Sanskrit "night") and Samar (Arabic "darkness of night")

Rayne and Bo aren't subtle in the slighest. It's vaguely ridiculous. Ellen is pretty, Nelle is a nickname (for Ellen, actually). Again, they're not subtle. Francesca is quite pretty, Frankie isn't. Chessie is sweet. Bennie is a masculine nickname, nice for Benjamin but hideous for a little girl. Ruby and Jade are quite nice, but I'm not fond of either name. Subtle would be something like Alice and Hazel. They are both two syllables with first syllable emphasis, and they share the same old-timey feel.

That is so cool. So many mums give their twins names that sound the same so that when they call their kids names the kids get confused.

When i was growing up we had a dog called Tess and my name was Jess everytime mum called the dog I thought she was calling me sucked big time.

However I would love to have twins named Riley and Rory Or Regan and Riley lol

Behind the Name actually has a list of these. Some common (even stereotypically overused by parents thinking themselves brilliantly "creative" LOL -- a la Aidan and Nadia), but many others might not have already thought of. ;)

I'll include the link below, in case anyone wants further info, but I'll copy them as well (no need to click! LOL). Here they are!

Aidan and Nadia
Aidan is Nadia in reverse.

Amy and May
The names are anagrams of each other.

Atarah and Stephen
Both names mean "crown", but Atarah is Hebrew and Stephen is Greek.

Aurora and Dawn
Aurora means "dawn" in Latin.

Brendan and Sarah
Brendan means "prince" in Irish while Sarah means "princess" in Hebrew.
*** Adding: Talulla is also an Irish name with a princess meaning, so even more fitting with Brendan. ;) Or as a sister to Sarah, of course (though I'd be careful with nicknames, avoiding -- for example -- Sally and Tally/Tilly in favor of something like Sadie and Lula/Lola). ;)

Cara and Mia
In Italian Cara means "beloved" and Mia means "my". Together they mean "my beloved", as the phrase caramia.

Chandra and Selene
Chandra means "moon" in Sanskrit and Selene is the Greek goddess of the moon.

Columba and Jemima
Both names mean "dove", but Columba is Latin and Jemima is Hebrew.

Daphne and Laura
Both names mean "laurel", but Daphne is Greek and Laura is Latin.

Deborah and Melissa
Both names mean "bee", but Deborah is Hebrew and Melissa is Greek.

Dolly and Lloyd
The names are anagrams of each other.

Dorcas and Tabitha
Both names mean "gazelle", but Dorcas is Greek and Tabitha is Aramaic. In the New Testament the names refer to the same person (Acts 9:36).

Dorothy and Theodora
Both names are formed from the Greek elements doros "gift" and theos "God", but the elements are in different order.

Elijah and Joel
The Hebrews had two name elements meaning "God". These names contain both elements, but in different order.

Erica and Heather
Erica means "heather" in Latin.

Eve and Zoë
Both mean "life", but Eve is Hebrew and Zoë is Greek.

Ezra and Ophelia
Both mean "help", but Ezra is Hebrew and Ophelia is Greek.

Grace and Hannah
Hannah means "grace" in Hebrew.

Ione and Violet
Ione means "violet" in Greek.

Ira and Ria
The names are anagrams of each other.

Irene and Salome
Both names mean "peace", but Irene is Greek and Salome is Hebrew.

Johan and Jonah
The names are anagrams of each other.

Jonathan and Matthew
Both names are formed from the Hebrew elements yehu "the Lord" and matis "gift", but the elements are in different order.

Leon and Noel
The names are each other in reverse.

Lucius and Uri
Both names mean "light", but Lucius is Latin and Uri is Hebrew.

Margaret and Pearl
Margaret means "pearl" in Greek.

Mary and Myra
The names are anagrams of each other.

Melanie and Phoebe
Both names are Greek, but Melanie means "dark" and Phoebe means "light".

Nathaniel and Theodore
Both names mean "gift of God", but Nathaniel is Hebrew and Theodore is Greek.

Reva and Vera
The names are anagrams of each other.

Why do they have to match? I mean really what would happen if you got twins that were NOTHING alike? They would tear each other to shreds! I'm speaking from my knowledge, I've got twin brothers with closely related names and God, .. one's sweet and cute the other might be considered the devil. Sorry.
