You maybe didn't go out and buy presents for each other, but you have given each other something that money can't buy, your love for each other and your children. My wife and I went thru years of no money for presents for each other. We would "gift wrap" our selves with wrapping paper, or Sunday funnies from the paper, and ribbons and bows. Wore nothing under the wrapping. We had great fun unwrapping our "presents." One year I told her I got her something to wear. It was a towel. Those were some of our most fun Christmases, now surpassed only by ones with grandchildren.

If someone leaves their partner because of the gift they got or didn't get them they are a very materialistic shallow person is all I can say. My husband and I agreed years ago not to bother exchanging gifts with each other...since we have pretty much whatever we want what's the point of buying a gift just for the sake of buying one? Makes no sense. To be honest I wouldn't want him to go out and spend a lot of money on some gift anyway...I'm way too practical for that!!

that's the problem with Christmas now people are so concerned with the getting an not the giving! People expect to much from Christmas!! If it's not expensive then they don't want it! I enjoy seeing my kids smiling on Christmas morning I don't want anything but that for Christmas!!

depends on the person. my soon to be ex rarely ever got me anything for holidays, anniversaries or birthdays. not getting a present didn't bother me, it was the fact that he didn't so much as acknowledge anything that i felt was a special occasion. that's what hurt me the most. i simple "happy birthday" told to me in the morning would have made my year, but even that was too much for him to manage.
