My kids got one when they turned 13. They also started doing more chores around the house and even worked for the neighbors. I didn't make them pay the bill, but their work ethic made me happy to get them cell phones. They don't text too much and I like being able to stay in touch.

well if you drive you can always use the 'if i get in a wreck...' and 'if i go over the min. you can have it'... ummm...dont ask for the most expensive get one that she can benefit from also for example buy one get one half off or something. or if you play sports you can say something like 'i can get the coach to give you directions' but that one isnt very good another could be if a hurricane were to happen or in a emergency you could be safe or end up being the one to call 911. if your around 11 you might REALLY want to take time to out think her i like having mine on soccer games and if helps me feel secure expecially at a friends house.
