Depends on the player, of course. I saw a clip of David Ortiz on first base as a runner, asking a Rays' first baseman if he was going to be walked three more times that day.

Some guys like to chat to distract the opponent, others like to talk because it comes naturally.

Anything & Evereything. I watched an interveiw with Yogi Berra, and he was talking about what he would talk to the batters about, while he was a catcher. So he was saying he would ask the batter about their families, vacations, everything but baseball, just anything and everything.

David Ortiz was recently asked this question and he said that they talk about the game or ask about a good restaurant in the area.

It depends if I like the guy or not, when I played against friends; yeah I talked. In the Majors, they'll joke around and laugh, you'll see that often. Sometimes you might see them slap each other or whatever.

Growing up I was always told they weren't allowed to talk to the other team it was "fraternising with the enemy" I guess times have changed, I guess in Yankee Stadium they will all talk about it being gone in a year ={

I'd talk... especially if Sean Casey was on first... ask about the kids, good restaurant, also... a lot of people ask Pujols for hitting tips.

Next year they will probably be talking about the Mitchell report and how glad they weren't on it.

If I was, let's say a member of the Red Sox, I would say, "Hey Giambi, do you want to see my World Series ring?".
