I lived with a woman for 5 years. We made a cross country trip in 1981. It was great I know she had a good time.
6 months later she broke up with me. My heart was broken but I moved on. I got married 6 years later to a great woman and now have two nice sons going into college next year.

I happened to go back to the hospital to say hello to my former nurses and therapists.

Who do I see but her. She has been a Physician's Assistant the past 20 years and now works in that hospital. She's been married for over 10 years to a nice guy.

We are now very good friends.
Not close friends but good friends.

The years apart is what makes us friends again. Years ago this wouldn't have worked.

Best of luck to you.

Personally i think that you truly can if you want to allow it.

Depending on what the person did to break your heart, things can be put in the past.

I'm sure being together or whatever your status was must have been great but think about how much more important a friendship is and learn to value it.

Of course, the other person has to commit to this freindship aswell but just talk and see what direction you're heading in.

:)hope this helps

This really depends the kind of guy, the way he broke your heart, and your true feelings for him.
If this guy is crap, he cheated on you and you didn't really care about him at all, why even try?
But if this guy is nice, he calmly told you that he wanted to break up with you, and you really like him- GO GET HIM!

In my situation YES!!!

I have a friend with 2 sick children and I have been supporting her for many years.

She has broken my heart plenty of times ,BUT there is no way I could never not talk to her again cause I love her children with all my heart.

She has her good days with me and bad ,but I hold in my feelings to make her happy and to keep me in the kids lives.

absolutely yes, you just have to put what ever happened behind you, did you ever hear that song by Bette midler 'the story of love' that goes with the movie. I don't remember the entire lyrics it goes like this

"sometimes you got to give a little, take a little that's the story of love' I'm pretty sure somebody can help with the song & or the lyrics.

I don't think so because you'll never truly get over that person if you're trying to be friends with them. The feelings will still be there, and if your friends with that person that means you'll have to hear about the people they date which will make you depressed and jealous. If you really loved this person, you never forget those feelings, even if you do eventually move on...

I tried but it didn't work out. In my case all we did was argue. Maybe it was too soon. But, deep in my heart I don't think we can ever be friends. Too much water under the bridge.

Of course you can. It is really hard because if you are still in love with them you are always dying to kiss them and stuff, but if you think about how you guys are better off as friends, it helps. You can be friends with anybody you want, it's your choice.

Unless you have forgiven the person and moved on and your fine with that. But the fact that they did that shows disrespect to you and a lack of consideration. If they did this are they really your friend?

No one has ever broken my heart before...my spirit maybe but I have always kept my heart in a secret dwelling within me.
