Since marriage is something instituted and ordained by God, and the bible speaks adomantly against homosexuality, why do gays feel the need to get married? Why don't they just shack up and be happy seeing that they are living in sin anyway?

Marrig is something instituted and ordained by MAN, just as God is. The bible was written thousands of years before marriage was instituted, the only time religion is involved in a marriage/wedding is when the couple WANTS it to be.
That said, all couples who share lives for years (such as 50) should be able to benefit at the end, such as when a partner dies. If when a hetero couple is together for 50 years or more and one of the partner's passes the other parnter get's the house, the cars, all that is left behind as part of the estate they emassed TOGETHER. In the case of homosexual couples however such is not the case. Blood relatives (some of whom had disowned the deceased) can go in and evict the partner and take everything the couple emassed together...Marriage BEGAN as a civil union...marriage will END as a civil union. Religion is man made.

Where does the bible ordain marraige and speak "adomantly" against gays?

As is usually the case, all of this is a blown up evangelical explanation for hateful action and attiutude.
There is a LOT more reference to good christians loving, forgiving and not hating than there is for the marriage you describe and against homosexuality.

I do not believe you get to pick and choose which parts you get to use and the ones you get to ignore.

If you are really all that concerned about thier "living in sin" perhaps you should take a hard look at who is ignoring the real message. As they say "He who is without sin..........."

"Since marriage is something instituted and ordained by God" <- sorry but that is total bullshit...
marriage was around long before people believed in YOUR God and it will be long afterwards
a marriage may be a religious ceremony, but u know what... if you dont want gay people to get married then don't let them get married in YOUR church...
religion has absolutely NO RIGHT whatsoever in political matters and anyone who brings their religious beliefs into politics is basically ignorant (conservative)

let me add some things:

"the bible was written by MEN, who claimed to have been spoken to by God, but they were mainly loony bastards who just heard voices in their heads, therefore... placing so much emphasis on the bible is the same as worshipping a false God, which goes against the basic beliefs which these men wrote down... Also Leviticus, one of the parts of the bible that speaks against homosexuality was merely a guideline for Jewish priests and therefore does not apply to all people, and another was written by Paul who was a religious psycho that believed that you should be able to shoot your neighbors for working on Sundays and sell your daughters into slavery... Good luck burning in YOUR own hell!

There are other reason to get married then what it states in the bible. One a person should be able to marry the person they love. Also I believe that most people that are gay are born that way. So by telling them that they cant get married because the way they were born is taking away their rights. Another reason people get married is there are certain legal benefits you get when you married.

I am married and I do not believe in god, am i living in sin? I don't think so. Gays should have rights just like everyone else, we are all equal. They love each other. Why is it so wrong? Love is a beautiful thing shared between two people who love each other.

They are people and have the same desires for love and family. Besides if you get married in a church you aren't legally married unless you get a license from the state so marriage is not a religious thing.

Marriage is a legal covenant. If it was just a religious ceremony there would be nothing to stop them from marrying as there are ministers who would perform the service. Gays want to demonstrate their fidelity by being married just the same as straight couples. They no doubt would also like to be covered by the same laws as married couples relating to inheritance, adoption, medical insurance, property ownership and income tax...just to name a few.

Everybody is different, and everybody has a life to live.

What is important is to see that although we may not share some people's beliefs or opinions, we have to try to be patient so we can live in peace.

I think God will decide and judge. We, as humans, shouldn't.

i'm not gay. but i would imagine that it's the same as hetro couples wanting to get married, well outside of the whole having children together. they want their time and energy put into a long lasting relationship to be a legal commitment. i believe it's more of an equality thing, then a religious thing. they put just as much into their partners as a hetro would put into theirs, why shouldn't they want to have that legally recognize by the world?!

so they can wear assless chaps and put dog collars around each others necks in public in front of my kids and no one can say anything about it.....i don't want to see a man and a woman making out in public, i SURE dont want to see two men doing it! and dont give me the whole homophob line either...every time someone has an opposing thought he is some type of phob...yall' gotta come up with something better than that...some people just genuinely disagree with gay marriage.
