Been there, got the tee shirt. I wallowed for 12 months then found I had lost the art! When you are ready, you will know. It gets harder as you get older believe me. But, just be careful, because there are a lot of guys who would see you as an easy target. The shame of it is that most men think with their appendages and think just because a girl is divorced/separated etc., they must be 'gagging for it'. Good luck.

I don't think there is any "set" time that people will expect you to wait before you begin dating again. It is normal during divorce to have a lot of personal issues to sort out and many people just don't feel ready to date for a long time, others jump right back into dating. You want your children to be settled into their new lives and adjusting well before you begin bringing new friends home to meet them. In fact it might be a good idea not to introduce them to everyone you date, unless you see it as developing into a longer relationship. Be aware that for many, the first person they date is a rebound affair, used to boost self esteem and try their wings and it may not work out well.

A couple of thoughts:

Some people are dating others while still in their relationship so good on you for being loyal before you split.

People who are widowed sometimes date someone new very soon, which attracts comments, but who are we to judge?

Don't worry about what other people think, just don't hurt anyone, but remember number one.

Date as soon as you feel you want to. As in the words of the killing of Georgie by Rod Stewart,

"Never wait or hesitate,
get in kid before its too late,
you may never get another chance,
'coz youth's a mask but it don't last,
live it long and live it fast............................"

From someone who missed so many chances through hesitation, Good luck.

Go on a date!! Do you think he's sitting at home wondering when he should bed somebody? No, probably not.
Good Lord, you've waited 8 months. Don't waste anymore time.

I would make sure I didn't have any leftover baggage from the relationship before I started dating again.

For you that may mean now.....or longer.

Make sure you don't introduce anyone to your children until you've been dating them exclusively for at least a year.

Whenever feels right. I think if you have to ask you may not be ready. Wouldnt introduce anyone to kids though. Try an evening class and meet random people there- see how it goes, no rush!

I was with someone for over 13 years. My advice would be to find a new partner as quickly as is comfortable for you, but don't stagnate for too long. In the long run it will be harder if you leave it.

do what feels right for you. if you're ready to get out there and date, then do it. i just advise that you keep the dating between you and your date, and don't bring the kids into it. they may not be ready for you to date.
