he isa bit smaller than a 5o cent piece w/ yellow knobs going down his back and 6 small yellow spots on his sides. he was found in the yard about a week ago and brought in so he wouldn't freeze. I need to know what kind he is so i know how to care for him. we think he may be some kind of mud turtle but i can't find any pics on the internet that look like him. We do have a small creek way down at the bottom of the hill but he is very small and was found in the yard.

Knobs on the back usually mean 'map turtle'. Try the 'World of Turtles Gallery' at http://www.austinsturtlepage.com

It is either a Map turtle or a false Map turtle. Try looking those up on the internet.

Sounds like it might be a baby box turtle:

If so, they are very difficult captives. If it's not too cold where you are, you should release it.
