As dictated in the Constitution of the United States, ratified in 1789, Justices who are to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States must be appointed by the President of the United States, and approved by the U.S. Senate.
The Constitution also dictates that from the time of their appointment, a Supreme Court Justice may serve in their position until their death, or until they choose to offer their resignation. There is no term limit for the Supreme court, and there is no required resignation date.
As such, the short answer is: there term is for life
Hope this helps. :-)
