If an old lady dropped a purse that contained $500, would you pick it up and hand it back to her, or would you keep it? Would it make any difference to your decision if next to the money she had a bill for $495 that you assume she was going to pay with this cash?

Knowing how difficult it is to earn 500 dollars, I would have to return it. I have chased someone to the street to return 50 cents change.

The fact that she had a bill for $495 would make NO difference to me ... because There would be no question that I wouldn't give the money back ...

I would ( and in fact have ) NEVER kept money I found ... WHEN it could be identified.... IF I have found money that wasn't identifiable// I have handed it in to the police...

I could never keep money that wasn't mine.

I would definitely give the old lady back her money, bill or no bill. I believe in Karma and if you do something evil, like taking someone's blood, sweat and tears, (yes, their money is from them working or having worked for a while,) if you take from someone, you'll get back 3X the bad that you sent out.

In any situation that involved something that did not belong to me, I would give it back. The bill would not even matter. If I saw her drop the purse, I would give it back to her without hesitation. I probably would not even know what was in it, as I would stop her immediately to give it back. In other situations, I am not nearly as honest...mainly ones that involve judgement calls of another person's feelings.

I am an accountant. If it were a million in cash, I would give it back. If I could bill her for the service, I would.

I'm not particularly honest but in that situation I would most definitely give it back.

I'd give it back because the guilt would kill me.
