I am taking a psychology class right now, and it all seems kind of easy. It doesn't seem like people should be getting away with getting lots of money for this. Its odd to me. Is is just and easy way to earn lots of money?

I find that some therapists that I've talked to are just in it for the money because they couldn't give a rat's as.s if i felt better or not. I for one want to become a social science worker because I like having people feel more at ease in my presence. Even though I'm only fourteen years old I find that I can relate myself to the people I try and help over Y!A. I think it's a high paying job because many people need a help and comforting and they are willing to pay a price to be comforted.

Given the extent of education required for licensure (for a psychologist, it is the time equivalent for that of a physician), the profession is one of the most UNDERPAID, actually.

In addition, what you learn in a high school or undergraduate course in psychology does not even scratch the surface of the breadth and complexity of this discipline. If you passed a basic first aid unit in your health class, would you conclude that being a brain surgeon is "easy"?

Psychologists are doctors (Ph.D.s and Psy.D.s). Psychology is a SCIENCE. Psychologists are trained (for the most part) under the scientist-practitioner model. Despite what you may believe, there's quite a bit more to it than simply chit chatting with people who feel sad.

Here is a quick summary of what it takes to become a psychologist. "Easy" is hardly an adequate descriptor:

*undergraduate degree in psychology (4 years)

* master's degree in psychology (2 years)

*doctoral degree in psychology (2-3 years)

* APA approved internship (1 year)

*pass the EPPP (analogous to "boards" for physicians or the bar for attorneys)

*Supervised practice (2-3 years depending on the state)

A person can't do/get much with just a BS in Psych! It takes graduate school and a Ph.D in order to get a job with much salary! And graduate school is a lot of work--and not all that easy! But go ahead an try it, if you find it interesting!

That one class can't even begin to tell you all the different aspects of this field. They have to go to school for years and its a lot of dedication. They are also learning new things in that field all the time. Its a never ending learning profession that takes all your time and effort.
