All that Prohibition really did was change the source that people got their alcohol from. It created an underground economy in the trade and sale of alcohol. In the long run it didn't even accomplish what it was supposed to. It was primarily established to decrease alcoholism and crime, and in the long run, neither changed.

The Prohibition Era began in January 16th, 1920 when United States prohibited the manufacture and sale of mostly alcohol. And there are many reasons to the beginning of the Prohibition Era. The reasons are as follow.
MEDICAL
ECONOMIC
POLITICAL
SOCIAL
As well as the four main reasons above, there were many pressure groups such as the Anti-Saloon Organization, that tried to persuade government and Congress to pass this law (this is included in social reason).
MEDICAL
By that time people were started to realise that alcohol damaged our health and could affect our lives. Many American men suffered from Sclerosis, which is caused by alcohol and lung cancer from smoking cigarettes. Those people suffered badly and eventually died. Because of this, many children fought their lives without their fathers, which led to families’ financial problems
ECONOMIC
Many labourers got drunk and so they could not perform the job properly. The absence from work each week was very high, therefore the company was less efficient. The company could not afford to produce the same products in the time that they should and the industrialists were not satisfied.
Other people also insisted that buying beer meant that the money flew away to Germany because all of the brewers were actually located in Germany. The solution that people came up was instead of helping Germany with her economy that was to spend the large amount of money on some other necessaries.
POLITICAL
Many votes were won in rural areas because politicians promised to back up prohibition, which helped those politicians to win the election.
SOCIAL
The last point of all was that the husbands were spending their family’s saving stupidly on alcohol instead of essential items, e.g. Education. That problem led to family arguments, which eventually led to divorce. The problem pressurised women the most, therefore they set up the anti-saloon groups.
That's it in a nut-shell~ Hope this helps

It was abolished for several reasons, depending on your point of view.
Some say it was abolished because it couldn't be enforced; Americans were so addicted to alcohol that they wouldn't give it up, even if it was against the law.
Some say that it promoted organized crime, and was a hazard to the safety of the general public.
And some say that alcohol isn't as harmful as other mind-altering drugs, and should therefore be legal. Of course, statistically, there are a lot of illegal drugs that aren't as harmful as alcohol.

Mainly because prohibition of alcohol resulted in large increases in crime and corruption.
Then, when prohibition was ended, the feds had all these cops they didn't know what to do with, so they began going after Cannabis and other drugs, and so we still have the same problem with prohibition created crime to keep cops employed, erosion of rights, and all that other stuff that accompanies these types of policies.

Rockefeller paid 4 million dollars to Christian women's temperance league to petition Congress to out law the manufacture and sale of Alcohol, Cars ran on clean burning Alcohol made at thousands of stills nation wide Ford model A's and T's had a choke and a dial on the dash to change fuels from Gas to Alcohol, and with 3,000 stations selling Alcohol, it was beating out Gas sales, so he paid to get Prohibition into law. the rest of the story is well known. it was not about people drinking per say, but about business.
every farmer had a still and he ran his tractors on corn alcohol. They were so successful that to this day people think it was about Beer, not Oil money. this is fact. not popular myth

It's virtually impossible to completly eliminate alcohol out of every home and bar. And to enforce something like that, inflation would go through the roof and people will loose their sanity. All tha will cause is jails filled up on arrest of people making their own alcohol (Which is fairly simple to do)

Because the crime and abuse rates actually went UP after it was prohibited. Illegal sale of it contributed to alcohol-related violence and helped to increase the mafia's power.

We have a modern prohibition problem today...and that is marijuana. It needs to be legalized. I used to smoke it, but I don't anymore. It's not as harmful as alcohol.

For the same reason booze isn't illegal, no matter how many deaths it has caused. For the same reason cigarettes aren't illegal, no matter how many deaths they have caused. BIG CORPORATIONS were losing BIG MONEY and lobbied crooked lawmakers. No different than what is going on today.
