Crickets should be fed live. It's important to make sure the crickets are not too big for your beardie. A good "rule of thumb" is to make sure the cricket is not larger than the space between your beardie's eyes.

My friend has a bearded dragon and he says he feeds it crickets that are alive. it is like the lizard is hunting and it ids better if they are alive. Some people coat the crickets in calciuim but the best person to ask is the person u bought it from or a person at a pet supply shop.
Hope this Helps

Live crickets, waxworms (not many! very fattening!), silkworms, mealworms (heads cut off), phoenix worms, grasshoppers for protien. Beardies are omnivores, so make sure to feed him things like leafy greens (not iceberg lettuce!), shredded carrots, apple, banana, etc. Make sure to always dust his food with calcium and mineral powder.
Why would you get a new pet without any prior research? Food is one of the big things you know BEFORE you bring an animal home. I suggest you buy a bearded dragon care book and educate yourself on everything about them.

Crickets should be alive, and young beardies will eat a lot of them. Also try to give him a salad, and put calcium dust on top of the crickets.

A significant portion of the Bearded Dragon's diet must consist of leafy greens, like lettice. They can also be fed collard greens, escarole, turnip greens, mustard greens, romaine lettuce, dandelion greens, beans, parsley, kale and carrot tops, and finely diced fruit, such as strawberries and apples. and for your Q about cutting the insects up... only if their bigger then the space between the Dragons eyes. and their also really likely to get bone deseises so dust their food with a calcium supplument.

No need to cut up any insect or cut heads off (old wives tale). Beardies don't digest mealworms easily, so they should be avoided. Only feed insects no bigger than the space between the beardies eyes. Too large can cause serious problems. Here are a couple of my favorite care/feeding sites to check out. They also need a fresh salad daily.

Live crickets for 2 reasons. 1. They are more appealing to the bearded dragon. 2. They have more nutrients and are jucier.

Live crickets, live small sized meal worms, dandelion flowers THEY LOVE THESE ((make sure they are clean not from a area sprayed with chemicals)), fresh basil leaves(I grew them this summer and he LOVED it), parsley, chopped apples, pears, bell pepper, zuchinni, dry cat food, blue berries, black berries, Lettuce (I get the mixed salad greens with all kind of baby lettuce types in it, he loves the radicchio). Try to give a good mix of things to them throughout the week to make sure they are getting enough nutrients. I've also found they are very attracted to yellow things. (AVOID THESE: bananas, corn, spinach, and tomatoes (from my experience tomatoes and bananas give them bad diarrhea). Also I know that mine doesn't care for carrots.
