This is a subject I am pretty passionate about. Composting is a natural recycling process so you are taking things that might end up in a landfill and turning them into a product that enriches the soil and will help you have a killer garden. The only cons I can think of are that if it is not done properly you can end up with some odor problems while the process is taking place and there is some work involved in turning the pile and keeping it moist. There are many good articles on the web that can help you get started or you can check with your local county extension office for more information.

Compost heaps shouldn't smell if made and maintained correctly, but they do require quite a lot of materials to get them going properly and work to turn them regularly.
I like the 'Ruth Stout' method of composting- the bottom line is just chuck anything organic on the ground and it will decompose eventually.

My thought is All Pros. Unless of course your put the .........
.........wrong things in it.
ie;meat scraps, domestic animal doo.
Always go with leafy, brown and yellow.
Throw in some lime and soil and sawdust occasionally.

Only negative is if it is done incorrectly and either putrifies, stinks or doesn't decompose.
Positive is reduce green/brown trash to landfill, reduce bulk waste in sewer system, recycle nutrients back to the earth, increase soil productivity. I'm sure there are more but I've lumped several thoughts together.

composting is good for a person who needs to save money. if you use it propertly it can provide rich soil and its good for the environment. keep it far from the house because it could start smelling bad.
