Look for a ferret shelter in your area or check the ads in your local paper.

Just so you know, the ferret itself is the cheapest part of having a ferret. If you don't have the money to buy one, you might be better off waiting to get one - they're not a cheap pet to keep and care for.

You could try a ferret rescue, but I don't know if their prices would be much better. You do often get what you pay for with animals, so while $150 may seem like a lot, it may actually cost less in the long run than a ferret that has a lower initial price. An animal's selling price usually includes the cost of veterinary care, so more expensive animals may be healthier than those sold for less. Responsible sellers of animals also use higher prices to discourage people who can't afford the long term care of an animal from buying it in the first place.

They're not cheap, every place that sells them are over $100.

If you're thinking of saving money on them, it's hard. They're prone to aleutian disease or adrenal disease (both cost around $1,000 to fix) and they need special food that's twice the cost of high end cat food. Plus they need a special cage, as large as you can get. Those are all over $100 too.

Ferrets are high maintenance pets, they're not low cost and it's sometimes very hard to find a vet who knows how to treat one (they're considered exotics so not all vets are trained for them).
