I'd want to know how many bacteria are on the book if it's one I'm going to have contact with. Not so much the actual number, but a comparison of the population with the population of bacteria on other surfaces like doors, handrails, water fountain handles, staplers, desktops, and other things I might touch.

I also might wonder if it helps to keep my book to myself instead of lending it to other people.

And, in general, it might astonish me enough to remind me to wash my hands and not touch my face.

nowadays ppl have have contacted diseases from everywhere! i would say theres a million bacteria in one single text book because everyone touches it, sneeze on it, drop it on the floor, cough on it....like there r textbooks so old ..imagine how much people have tpuched it and how much bacteria it has? that bacteria gets transferred to u when u contact it and then u put ur hands in ur mouth or eyes and thats how we get infections..not saying its the only reaosn but yeah

gross i always clean my things 24/7 and wash my hands afetr shaking hands =)
